by Catherine Oxley | Sep 28, 2021

NFRC revealed the members of the newly reconstituted Roofing Suppliers Group (RSG) at their annual suppliers’ conference held at the Institute of Directors on Thursday, 23 September.

The RSG plays an important role within NFRC, providing strategic direction and input into the Management Board on behalf of its Supplier Members. The committee of twelve is made up of both elected and appointed members, covering all the major roofing categories. The reconstitution of the group follows a recent election, where a record number of 19 members put themselves forward for a position.

The newly formulated group hopes to support ongoing supply chain communication and engagement on product availability, as well as supporting the industry with new challenges around meeting net zero and digitisation, as well as building and product safety.

The following were successfully appointed to the RSG:

  • Andy Williamson—SIG (CHAIRMAN)
  • Richard Aldred—Sika
  • Nigel Blacklock—Bauder Ltd
  • Robert Hardstaff—EJOT UK Ltd
  • Mark Harris—Radmat Building Products Ltd
  • Kevin Jones—Metal Solutions Ltd
  • Paul Reed—Marley Ltd
  • Barry Saltmarsh—Spanish Slate Quarries Ltd
  • Paul Simpson—Recticel Insulation
  • John Sinfield—BMI UK & Ireland
  • John Spittlehouse—Euroclad Group Ltd
  • Colin Wells—Keylite Roof Windows

Andy Williamson, Commercial Director at SIG was appointed as Chairman of the committee. Andy is well known to many in the industry, having spent over 30 years as a supplier to the construction sector and was previously Managing Director of IKO PLC. Andy joined SIG in June 2020 as part of a new management team with a focus on improving relationships with customers and suppliers alike.

Andy is also currently the Senior Warden of the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants and is due to take over as Master in October. As well as sitting on the RSG, Andy has previously been a Director of the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF) and has sat on the Construction Products Association (CPA) Industry Principles Council.

Commenting on his appointment as Chairman, Andy said:

As Chairman of the RSG, I look forward to working with all suppliers, as well as the NFRC Board, to discuss the current challenges being experienced by all in the supply chain and facilitate a better understanding of how everyone can work better together.

I also plan to look at future trends and opportunities in the sector to ensure we are ahead of the game. This includes important changes in legislation that are on the horizon, new initiatives such as the Code for Construction Product Information, and supporting our industry its transition to net zero.

Steve Laurence, NFRC’s National Account Manager—Suppliers and Service Providers, commented saying:

I would like to offer my congratulations to all those who have been appointed to the RSG. It was an incredibly competitive process with 19 suppliers putting themselves forward. I look forward to working with Andy and the rest of the committee to ensure good dialogue between NFRC Supplier and Trade Members.

I would like to thank those who put themselves forward for the committee but weren’t successful this time and encourage them to stand in future elections. I would also like to thank Tom Ogilvie, Anthony Carlisle, and David Wigglesworth, who have stood down from the committee, as well as the former chair Mike Crook.
