Derek Stamp, founder of Span Roofing and long-serving member passes

by | Sep 03, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a longstanding NFRC member Derek Stamp, who passed away on the 23 August 2019.

In 1970 Derek started working for Bob Hadley at Weston Felt Roofing, which was the training ground for many current NFRC members, including County Flat, Hodge Single Ply, Single Ply Services and PB Holliday.

Derek set up on his own trading as D E Stamp Felt Roofing in 1977 with a beat-up van and a labourer who is now a Director of Span Roofing, Stephen Middle. Derek was also a member of the NFRC South West Regional committee of the NFRC for several years, making many friends. On his retirement in 2000, D E Stamp employed 12 and the company passed on to Stephen and Derek's three sons Paul, Andrew and Neil. D E Stamp evolved into Span Roofing, which now has over 50 employees, a fitting legacy of Derek's hard work.

For those of you who may wish to attend, the funeral will take place at Weston-super-Mare crematorium at 1.30 pm Friday 13 September.
