Construction Products Reform Consultations Launched

The government has published two consultations which include significant reforms to the regulation of construction products in the UK.

Last year Last year, NFRC held a series of webinars to inform Members of the proposals put forward by the Construction Products Reform Green Paper. The white paper is a product of the feedback NFRC, and others in industry, provided.

The first consultation is seeking views on the newly published Construction Products Reform White Paper, published in response to the Construction Products Reform Green Paper, which NFRC responded to last year. The summary of responses to the green paper outlines NFRC and other industry stakeholders' responses. Some of the white papers proposed solutions to the problems outlined in the Grenfell inquiry phase two report include:

  • Mandatory requirements when placing a construction product on the market
  • Additional measures to enhance the regulatory framework
  • Enhanced product information and transparency
  • Digital solutions for enhanced product information
  • Strengthening testing and certification
  • Improved enforcement mechanisms
  • Strengthening the route to redress
  • Sustainability and environmental considerations

The second consultation is on a proposal to introduce a general safety requirement for construction products.

Both consultations are open until 20 May. NFRC will be collating responses and engaging with Members on the proposals from now until then. If you have thoughts to share in the meantime, please reach out to [email protected]
