Starting a roofing career

As a multi-billion pound industry, roofing is an environment that continues to grow. Every building requires a roof, but beyond that there's solar, sheeting and cladding, blue and green roofing, and so much more.

Why work towards a career in roofing?

At NFRC, we're committed to demonstrating the potential of the roofing industry and encouraging individuals to consider a career in this industry. For many reasons, the roofing sector is in need of new people. This means that employers need to continue to recruit and train new entrants to keep up with the demand. 

Our Members have worked on projects including restoring heritage properties, Premier League football stadiums, new-build developments, power plants, lighthouses, off-grid houses; the list goes on.

We commit to:

  • Providing easy-to-understand information, advice and support to both potential employees and employers, making a career in roofing a possibility for all
  • Supporting our employer members to build and advertise exciting career opportunities and recruit fantastic people through the entire careers cycle
  • Encouraging the roofing industry, and the wider construction sector, to offer high-quality working experiences to enable people and the sector to grow and thrive

We headed out on the road to join Dalton Roofing, based in Derbyshire, and Longworth Building Services, based in St Helens, to speak with their apprentices and take a look behind the scenes on-site. We also had a virtual catch-up with Progressive Systems, based in Exeter. These visits gave a valuable insight into what roofing apprenticeships are really like and the opportunities available.
