Digital Product Passports – Have Your Say on New Standards
What are Digital Product Passports (DPPs)?
For manufacturers and suppliers of construction products, DPPs are designed to support transparency, regulatory compliance, and sustainability objectives.
DPPs are central to the EU’s new Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). If your products are sold into the EU and fall under these frameworks, DPPs will likely apply in the coming years.

Industry Input Needed on New British Standards
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published six draft standards that lay the groundwork for how Digital Product Passports will function. These include standards on unique identifiers, data storage, APIs, and interoperability.
- BS EN 18219 – unique identifiers;
- BS EN 18220 – data carriers;
- BS EN 18221 – data storage, archiving, and data persistence;
- BS EN 18216 – data exchange protocols;
- BS EN 18222 – APIs for the product passport lifecycle management and searchability; and
- BS EN 18223 – system interoperability.
BSI is inviting public comments and seeking industry members to join the standards committee (IST/47/-3) to shape how these standards evolve.
