Help Us Improve Employment Opportunities for People with Learning Disabilities

Across the UK, people with learning disabilities still face barriers to finding and staying in work. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)  Learning Disabilities Project is working with employers and partners to better understand the real challenges and to develop practical support for inclusive recruitment, onboarding and retention.

We’re inviting employers to complete a short survey to share what you’re already doing, what’s getting in the way, and what tools, training or guidance would help. Your feedback will directly shape the next phase of work, including employer resources and guidance - please take part here:

Improving Employment Opportunities for People with Learning Disabilities – Fill in form

The survey will remain open until the 29 May

Working Chance - Hiring with Conviction

Working Chance works closely with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to support women with convictions into sustainable employment, aligning with DWP’s wider goal of helping disadvantaged groups access the labour market.

Through this relationship, Working Chance provides specialist expertise, guidance and employer engagement that complements DWP employment programmes, helping to break down barriers such as stigma, skills gaps, and lack of opportunity.

Employers are strongly encouraged to read Working Chance’s Hiring with Conviction guide, as it offers practical, evidence-based advice on recruiting people with criminal records safely and effectively:

The guide helps organisations understand risk, challenge common misconceptions, and implement fair hiring practices—ultimately enabling employers to access a wider, often overlooked talent pool while contributing to social mobility and reducing reoffending.

Find Your Thing Events in Trafford, Wythenshawe and Stockport

Colleagues in Greater Manchester are shaping a series of three interactive careers events to inspire 18–29 year olds as follows:

  • Trafford 25 June at Sale Waterside
  • Stockport 26 June at Stockport Guild Hall
  • Wythenshawe 14 July at Wythenshawe Forum Library

They are looking for employers and providers who can commit to attend all three events, if possible, to offer interactive demonstrations and embed ideas by trying something, not just hearing about job roles/training.

Activities do not need to be complex - simple, engaging, and hands‑on works best, such as:

  • Try‑a‑skill activities eg, wire a plug, resuscitation dummy, etc
  • Practical challenges or problem‑solving tasks
  • Equipment or tools demonstrations
  • VR, simulators, or scenario‑based activities
  • Short, engaging tasters showing what a typical role might involve

By taking part, you will:

  • Inspire young people and raise awareness of your sector
  • Promote apprenticeships, entry‑level roles and pathways into work
  • Engage people who may not thrive in classroom‑based learning
  • Positively showcase your organisation’s commitment to the local community

 Support on the day:

  • Tables, power and space for activities (where required)
  • Staff to manage flow and engagement
  • Promotion of your organisation ahead of the event

Thanks for considering supporting our young people. We would love it if you could be involved.

Youth Event at The Wing at the Brighton Centre, from 10am to 3:30pm on 30th June 2026

Colleagues in South-East England will be hosting a large-scale recruitment event to promote job and training opportunities for 18-24 year olds as part of the Government Youth Guarantee commitment.

The event is designed to unlock potential in Sussex by connecting, engaging, and inspiring young people with employers who are recruiting now and in the future.

What’s in it for you?

The event offers the chance to meet young people, spot potential, and increase opportunities to fill vacancies and skills gaps. Around a thousand young people are expected to attend. Ideally, we will have just the person you are looking for.

As well as meeting potential new recruits, this event presents a great networking opportunity with other employers and training providers, and to discuss the range of recruitment support available for employers and jobseekers with one of our Jobcentre Recruitment Consultants. As this is a regional event, sponsored by DWP Ministers we will have press interest and coverage across media platforms.

To register your interest please contact us at:

The team will then get back to you to understand more about the opportunities you are bringing and how we can support you, together with more details about the event. We would love for you to join us.
