Join us in shaping the future of employment in East Sussex
The government proposes reforms to employment, health, and skills support to reduce economic inactivity and help people into work. The Get Britain Working white paper aims to lower the number of unemployed and achieve an 80% employment rate long term.
As part of this initiative, the government intends for all regions to develop a Get Britain Working Plan to facilitate employment and job retention. In Sussex, the three local authorities—East Sussex, West Sussex, and Brighton and Hove—are required to formulate comprehensive plans that evaluate the local job market, identify contributing issues, and propose strategies and actions. Although each area will have its individual plan, they will collaborate to establish overarching priorities for Sussex to enhance employment by addressing key challenges and utilising local resources efficiently. The East Sussex County Council’s employment and skills team is leading this effort and seeks to partner with employers and stakeholders within the county to develop a 10-year strategic plan, in addition to setting immediate objectives and actions for the next 1-2 years.
The government require local authorities to submit their local Get Britain Working plans for consideration by end of June. Although this is an extremely tight deadline, it is important that our partners, stakeholders and local employers help us to shape the plan. Looking at what has worked in the past, build on what's already in place and consider new and innovative ways to address employment challenges, tailoring solutions to local needs.
We invite you to take part by completing the Get Sussex Working survey.
Your involvement will help to ensure the success and relevance of our local plan to address employment challenges.
