Guidance Note GN76 Reviewing Public Liability Insurance for Hot Works explains how roofing contractors should review their Public Liability Insurance when carrying out hot works, highlighting that many policies contain exclusions, restrictive conditions, or clauses that can leave contractors exposed. It outlines key areas to check, including hot work definitions, exclusions, safe-distance requirements, subcontractor liability, permit systems, and distance limits. It advises contractors to negotiate realistic terms, document procedures, and work closely with specialist brokers to ensure adequate cover and avoid invalidated claims arising from fire or other hot-work risks.

Guidance Note GN72 Proposed Terms and Conditions for accepting the condition of a structural deck sets out the risks roofing contractors face when contractual terms require them to “accept” the condition or moisture content of a structural deck installed by others, emphasising that doing so can imply liability for latent defects or future failures. It highlights the need for verified moisture testing, formal condition surveys, and caution around “deemed acceptance” or liability-shifting clauses that may undermine manufacturer warranties or hold contractors responsible for issues beyond their control.
