My CSCS App Lays the Foundations for a Digital Skills Passport
The My CSCS App is laying the groundwork for a future ‘digital skills passport’ for the construction industry, which was one of the key recommendations from Mark Farmer’s Industry Training Board (ITB) Review, published earlier this year.
Digital CSCS Card and Centralised Skills Record
The My CSCS App provides every cardholder with a digital version of their CSCS card, identical to the traditional plastic version. It includes the holder’s photo, qualifications, training record, occupation, and card expiry date, all easily accessible on a mobile device.
To make competence management simpler, the app’s ‘My Skills’ section allows users to store:
- Verified qualifications and certifications,
- Evidence of Health, Safety and Environment Test completion, and
- Records of additional training or CPD activities.
Cardholders can also generate a CV-style summary of their information, which can be shared directly with employers — making it easier than ever to demonstrate competence and skills development.
Smart Verification Across the Supply Chain
Alongside the app, CSCS Smart Check provides a secure, industry-wide tool that enables employers and site managers to digitally verify all 2.3 million cards displaying the CSCS logo, regardless of the scheme.
NFRC encourages members to use CSCS Smart Check across their projects and supply chains to maintain consistent and reliable competence checks. Together, these digital tools represent a significant step toward a more connected, transparent, and skills-focused construction workforce.
Getting Started with My CSCS App
The My CSCS App is available for free download from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Once installed, cardholders can log in using their CSCS registration details to view their digital card, upload training information, and manage their skills record in one convenient location.
