NFRC Members Encouraged to Start Preparing their Entries for UK Roofing Awards 2026
Whilst no announcement has been made as to when entries will be open, NFRC reminds members of the importance of documenting their works in progress and preparing their entry in advance.
Bob Richardson, Head Judge of the UK Roofing Awards, said: "The difference between a shortlisted entry and a winning entry really does come down to the finest of details. Judges need to understand the whole project in all its complexity and documenting this whilst carrying out the works is far easier than trying to recall the details later down the line.”
He then goes on to explain the importance of images throughout the project.
“We receive hundreds of images of projects upon completion, which are great, but they don’t tell the whole story. A picture really does say a thousand words. Taking photos of detailing, materials, obstacles, observations, and generally the project throughout from day one to completion can make the difference to the judges”.
The NFRC Technical Team play a vital role in shortlisting entries. With a breadth of knowledge spanning the roofing spectrum, the team are experts in their field and have outlined what they expect each entry to include, as well as the elements considered most relevant. Ben Rowlands, Slating and Tiling Technical Manager for NFRC, explains more, “The quality of entries we receive gets better every year, but ultimately the entries that stand the best chance are those that take into consideration the importance of images showing the work in progress, and those that tell the whole story.”
The criteria is as follows:
- Health and safety
- Problems and solutions
- High resolution photography, including work in progress, visible PPE, details, close-up shots
“We don’t expect professional photography. Camera phones can take the quality of images required, typically at least 2MB in file size. Drone shots are great, but they don’t show us the details.
“If you’re carrying out works on a project that you’re considering to be an entry, I strongly recommend preparing your entry in advance. Document all the details, the challenges, the little wins.
“A strong entry is determined by the details, not the size or budget of the project.”
