Substandard timber battens are still circulating within the marketplace, and have the potential to cause roof failures and accidents. NFRC has issued guidance outlining what to look out for.
Substandard timber battens are still circulating within the marketplace, and have the potential to cause roof failures and accidents. A Safety Alert has been produced for NFRC Members and the wider roofing industry to highlight the issue and give guidance on what to look out for when procuring timber battens. The alert was formulated with the assistance of the Timber Batten Working Group, chaired and hosted by NFRC. The group is made up of manufacturers, merchants and contractors. If you have information you would like to share with the group on the topic of non-standard inferior battens being supplied and used, please contact Jo Lear.
2026 has been a mixed bag weather wise, but it’s safe to say we’ve had more than our fair share of rain and grey miserable skies. It’s very easy to get carried away when the sun finally makes an appearance.
NFRC have collaborated with The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) to produce guidance for bat and roof risk management and considerations during roofing works.
