Welcoming Matt Timby to the Technical and Training Team

We’re pleased to welcome Matt Timby, who joined the Technical and Training Team on 1 September as Technical Manager – Pitched Roofing and Hard Metals.

Matt brings more than 20 years’ hands-on experience in slating and tiling, as well as traditional fully supported metals. Passionate about roofing at craft level, Matt has received multiple awards for his work throughout his career, which include NFRC Roofing Awards, as well as achieving Master Craftsman status with both the Worshipful Company of Tylers & Bricklayers and the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment, now The King’s Foundation.

Training and developing skills are also a particular passion for Matt, who has supported skills competitions including SkillBuild and the IFD Young Roofers World Championship throughout his career. Having been an active NFRC contractor member for the past 15 years, we’re particularly pleased to now have his experience, skills and expertise within the team.

Matt’s appointment also sees Ben Rowlands take on a new role as Technical Manager – Pitched Roofing and Solar Integration, reflecting the growing importance of solar integration within the pitched roofing sector.

NFRC welcomes Wates Construction

The NFRC recently assisted and supported members of the façade team at Wates Construction, a Tier 1 main contractor. With the Building Safety Act stipulating individual as well as organisational competence a roofing masterclass was presented to explain good detailing and how to identify and mitigate recurring defects. This presentation was then followed by a practical example of these defects and how they occur. The day was supported by and held at CoRE (Centre of Roofing Excellence) in Hereford, an NFRC Centre of Excellence training facility.
