YNE Technical Event Highlights—7 October 2025

NFRC’s recent Technical Event, held on 7 October 2025 at Askham Bryan College near York, brought together roofing and construction professionals for a day of learning, networking, and technical insight.

The event featured an engaging mix of expert presentations and discussions addressing some of the most pressing topics in the roofing industry today.

The programme began with Marley Pitched Roofing and Roof System Specification Manager, James Seawell, who discussed advancements in solar integration and how roofing contractors can adapt to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.

Following this, Permavent Technical Director, Craig Fyall, provided a deep dive into roofing membranes, comparing performance factors, material innovations, and installation best practices.

Later sessions included NFRC’s Technical Safety, Health and Environment Officer, Gary Walpole, and Bauder’s Regional Manager, Chris Lawford, presenting on fire safety in flat roofs, a crucial topic given evolving regulations and heightened industry scrutiny.

After a networking lunch, The Rooflight Association’s Technical Manager, Matt Camp, explored the latest developments in rooflights and cladding systems, while Principal Facade Manager at Wates Group, Danny Hampshire, delivered an informative update on the Building Safety Act and its practical implications for contractors and suppliers.

The event concluded with an open Q&A session where attendees engaged directly with NFRC’s technical team, sharing insights and clarifying compliance queries. Participants also earned an attendance certificate, which could be used to record CPD, underscoring the event’s focus on professional development and technical excellence.

NFRC’s technical team, along with the regional managers in attendance, found the day to be a valuable opportunity to gauge Member sentiment and better understand the challenges they face. Discussions on fire safety, demonstrating competence, and integrating solar technologies—key areas of both innovation and responsibility within the industry—were particularly insightful. Events like this highlight the importance of staying informed, working collaboratively, and maintaining a shared commitment to raising standards across the roofing sector.
