Helpline for Those Struggling with Debt
The Money Advice Trust also offers a free phone line to provide debt advice to small business owners and the self-employed across England, Wales, and Scotland.
As well as providing advice on debt, they can also help you create a budget and plan for the future.

Up to Date Minimum Pay Rates – Everything you need to know
The Construction Industry Joint Council (CIJC) Employers Group are an independent body representing the interests of adherent bodies in the Building and Civil Engineering Industry.
As a Member of the CIJC, NFRC is regularly provided with up to date resolution and promulgation working rule agreements that outline minimum pay rates for operatives and apprentices, alongside daily fare subsistence and travel allowances, and sick pay rates.

Selling Products and Services
This short guide explains guidance on unfair commercial practices and may be helpful if you:
- own or run a business (this means you are a ‘trader’) and sell products, services or digital content to consumers
- sell goods online to make money (rather than to get rid of old things)
- are a lawyer who advises businesses
Reporting Collusion and Strengthening the Market
- Contact the CMA: Tell the CMA about issues with a business, a market, or provide information about a new or existing case.
- Cartels - come forward and apply for leniency: Information on how to confess a cartel, the CMA’s leniency programme and what to expect if the cartel activity was in Scotland.
- Report a competition or market problem: Tell the CMA about competition and consumer issues.
- Make a whistleblower report: Use this service to tell the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) about any suspected illegal activities or suspicious behaviour carried out by the business or organisation you are employed by or were previously employed by.
- Avoiding disqualification - advice for company directors: Company directors have a special responsibility to be well-informed about their company practices and ensure they comply with the law.
- Always seek independent legal advice if you think you may have broken the law.

Safe2Torch
Safe2Torch is an NFRC campaign developed in partnership with contractor and manufacturer members of the NFRC, launched Monday 3 July 2017, which seeks to significantly reduce the risk of roof fires when using gas torches, either to dry out roofs or when used to install torch-on membranes.
Don't Fall for Fragile
The roofing industry has made real progress in preventing falls from height. But fragile roofs remain one of the most serious and persistent risks in roofing. A fragile roof can fail without warning. One wrong step can lead to life-changing injury or death.
Cut the Dust
Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) dust is generated during routine tasks like cutting tiles, slates and mortar. This dust can cause lung cancer, silicosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Its effects are not immediate, exposure builds over time, silently causing damage.
Bat Awareness for the Roofing Industry
As well as challenges with the climate we are also facing challenges with biodiversity especially with the loss of natural habitat due to the ever-expanding industrialisation and urbanisation that we are seeing throughout the UK. NFRC has been working in collaboration with the Bat Conservation Trust to improve awareness and understanding of bat protection within the roofing industry.
Substandard roofing battens
Due to the high demand for treated timber, compounded by shortages and supply chain issues. There are now large quantities of sub-standard roofing battens within the UK market that are being marked, coloured and sold as conforming to BS 5534 when in fact they are an inferior product and highly likely to impact performance and longevity of a roof should they be used.
Breathe Freely
Breathe Freely is a BOHS initiative, aimed at reducing occupational lung disease in the UK, which causes significant debilitating ill-health and an estimated 13,000 deaths per year. Breathe Freely is about raising awareness both of the problem and how to do something about it: we can protect workers’ health and prevent most of these diseases and deaths. It is not just “the right thing to do”, it is good for business as well. And broad acceptance of this is part of the solution.
Driving for Better Business
NFRC is pleased to be partnering with National Highways and their Driving for Better Business (DfBB) programme, to recognise the importance of managing work-related road risk effectively in business.
The DfBB programme helps employers in both the private and public sectors reduce work-related road risk, control the associated costs, and improve compliance with current legislation and guidance. The programme is free to access and contains useful online tools and resources to help organisations evaluate practices, strengthen culture, enhance performance and demonstrate leadership in the management of work-related road risk throughout their workforce.
Health in Construction Leadership Group
The HCLG, which NFRC is a member, aim is to unite the construction industry to eradicate the ill health and disease caused by exposures to health hazards on building sites.
Building People is working collaboratively across the built environment to make it easier for people to find careers information, resources, events and vacancies, and to help employers widen talent pools in order to attract and retain a more diverse workforce.
Mates In Mind
Right now, one in six workers in the UK is experiencing depression, anxiety or stress, in the construction industry it suggests 350,000 people are suffering at any one time. Life in construction offers jobs and careers full of energy with a unique mix of diversity, skills sets, opportunity and life experience. It offers workers across the UK a chance to change the face of the world we live in, both for themselves and for others. Because of this every single person in Construction deserves the chance of positive mental health.
NFRC is supporting the campaign and it is their intention to train members of staff to become mental health champions.
No Time to Lose
IOSH's No Time to Lose campaign aims to get carcinogenic exposure issues more widely understood and help businesses take action. NFRC has pledged to support and to promote the campaign throughout our membership and the roofing sector to raise awareness of the occupational health risks attributed to working in the construction industry.
