Building Safety Update

The guide outlines the responsibilities of manufacturers, importers and distributors when preparing a DoP, including the essential information that must be included and how it should be provided.

The Construction Products Association (CPA), in partnership with the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), has published a new guide to help the industry meet the Declaration of Performance (DoP) requirements set out under the Construction Products Regulation 2011. The DoP is a standardised method for communicating how a construction product performs, enabling Clients, Designers and Contractors to make informed and transparent product choices.

To support consistency across the sector, the guide also features a template that manufacturers can adopt for their own products.

The OPSS continues to publish quarterly updates on enforcement actions taken under the Construction Product Regulations 2013. Members are encouraged to routinely check these updates to ensure that any products being specified or used have not been subject to enforcement action.

MHCLG has launched a consultation on proposals that would allow Local Authorities to charge for a wider range of building control functions under the Building Act and Building Regulations. These could include inspections carried out prior to Building Control Approval, issuing compliance and stop notices, and responding to appeals. The consultation is open until 25 January 2026.

In addition, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is recruiting a new Chair of the Building Advisory Committee, which provides advice on all building functions except competence. This is a fixed-term appointment of up to three years, and applications, including a CV and covering statement, must be submitted by 5 January 2026
