Latest Data Shows Continued Progress on Building Remediation Across England

Latest Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government figures show progress towards making high-rise homes safer across England.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published its latest data release on the remediation of residential buildings 11 metres and above in England, providing an updated picture of national progress towards making high-rise homes safer.

As of the end of August 2025, remediation work has been completed on 35% of the 5,554 identified buildings, with work currently underway on a further 13%. These figures highlight the scale of the ongoing effort to address fire safety risks in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy and underline the Government’s continued focus on ensuring all unsafe buildings are remediated as swiftly as possible.

Progress Against the Remediation Acceleration Plan

Under the Remediation Acceleration Plan, the Government has set a target to complete remediation on all buildings 18 metres and over by 2029.

Encouragingly, work has now been completed on 90% of the 511 buildings identified as having unsafe Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding, representing a significant milestone in the national safety programme.

However, there are still between 3,300 and 3,500 dwellings awaiting remediation. To help drive progress, local authorities are taking enforcement action against building owners who have failed to act, ensuring that work continues at pace to bring all affected properties up to standard.

Industry Remediation Survey Now Open

To support ongoing improvements in the sector, the MHCLG Buildings, Fire and Resilience Group has launched its annual industry remediation survey. The survey aims to gather insights on industry capacity, capability challenges, and supply chain resilience over the next 12 months.

Feedback collected will directly inform future policy decisions and help the Government tailor its support for contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders involved in remediation projects.

The survey takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, and responses must be submitted by Wednesday, 12 November. NFRC encourages any members involved in remediation or building safety work are encouraged to take part and share their views.
