New EAS Rules for Roofers Installing Solar Explained
From October 2026, businesses that are certified to install solar PV through certification bodies including, but not limited to, NICEIC, NAPIT, Blue Flame, and OFTEC, or registered with a registration body such as SELECT in Scotland will need to ensure their Qualified Supervisors and relevant Employed Persons hold appropriate qualifications for the work they undertake within their scope of certification/registration. However, there is a grace period of up until July 2028 to ensure you are compliant.
Businesses that undertake electrotechnical work in dwellings and for areas other than dwellings, need to be aware of these changes. Amongst NFRC’s membership, it will be most relevant to roofing businesses who also install solar PV.
Businesses who undertake this work will be asked to ensure the relevant employed persons undertaking the work hold the work category qualifications at their next assessment with the certification body.
If they have not completed this, the certification / registration body will look for evidence, such as employed persons being booked on to the appropriate qualification(s) at the subsequent assessment. Failure to complete obtain the relevant qualification(s) by July 2028 could lead to certification / registration being withdrawn.
