Rooftops Case Study–Matthew Holmes

When Safeseal hired Matty as a labourer, he was their very first employee. Now he runs his own gang, holds his SSSTS and NVQ L3, and has supported the progression of multiple labourers under his leadership.

Rooftops, by NFRC Careers Services, is dedicated to showcasing those who champion training and development, and encourage others to invest in their roofing careers.

Safeseal, an NFRC Member in the North West region, recognised the potential of investing in talent and providing career opportunities, particularly when they discovered roofing apprenticeships weren't available at their local college. Matty was the first laborourer employed by Safeseal. Since then, he has gone on to achieve his NVQ L3, holds his SSSTS and Bauder card, and has supported the progression of multiple labourers under his leadership. Matty currently has two second men in his gang, and also works with other labourers across projects.

In this case study, we learn more about how offering a structured training and development has enabled Matty's career to progress sustainably, and allow Safeseal to grow, provide more services, deliver exceptional workmanship.

The roofing industry does not always have the strongest reputation and is often affected by outdated stereotypes. At Safeseal, we are passionate about changing this narrative by demonstrating that roofing can be a skilled, professional, and rewarding long-term career.
