NFRC GN79 Refurbishing Existing Domestic Cold Roof

Practical Guidance for Cold Roof Refurbishment.

NFRC has published new guidance to help roofing contractors safely refurbish existing domestic cold roofs in line with BS 6229:2025. The guidance explains that where upgrading to a warm roof is not practical, existing cold roof constructions may remain—but only where ventilation is checked, condensation risks are considered, and findings are properly recorded. It also highlights the importance of clear communication with homeowners, particularly where future changes in room use or humidity levels could affect roof performance.
