Burnley College & Themis to Launch New Roofing Apprenticeship
The programme delivers the Level 2 Roofing Apprenticeship Standard, with apprentices able to specialise in one of two pathways: Slating and Tiling or Flat Roof Membrane Installer. The 24-month programme uses a block-release model, allowing apprentices to spend focused periods at college developing their technical knowledge and practical skills alongside their employment.
Training will be delivered from a newly established workshop and classroom within a purpose-built training centre. Cohorts will be limited to between 10 and 15 learners, creating a supportive learning environment where apprentices can benefit from close guidance and extensive hands-on experience throughout the programme.
Applicants must have an employer placement secured before starting the apprenticeship, with the programme aimed at supporting employers and learners within approximately a 30-mile radius of the college.
At the end of the programme, apprentices will complete their end-point assessment either at the college or at an external End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) centre, providing flexibility in how the final stage of their apprenticeship is delivered.
The roofing apprenticeship adds to the college’s established range of Themis construction apprenticeships, which includes brickwork, plastering, carpentry and joinery, electrical installation, cabinet-making, painting and decorating, upholstery and professional construction.
The college has also been recognised as Construction Apprenticeship Training Provider of the Year and has developed a strong reputation for its specialist training facilities, providing a strong foundation for the new roofing provision and helping to develop the next generation of roofing professionals.
