Demand for terraces, balconies and podiums has never been greater, but with the thickness limitation of traditional products there is a difficulty for a designer to insulate above a habitable space against a backdrop of increasing thermal requirements. Where is it best used?

NFRC Presents Stuart Wheeler Roofing Ltd with IFD Award

Following his success at the UK Roofing Awards 2023, Stuart Wheeler Roofing Ltd became winner of the Pitched Roofing category at the prestigious International Federation of the Roofing Trade (IFD) Awards 2023.

His project, Yellowsands, Thurlestone, was crowned Roof of the Year, and winner of the Roof Slating category at the UK Roofing Awards 2023.

Although Stuart himself was unable to attend the IFD Awards Ceremony, NFRC Chief Executive, James Talman, collected the award on his behalf, and NFRC was fortunate enough to present him the award in person at the annual South West Committee meeting on 29 December.

NFRC Marketing Team caught up with Stuart to learn more about how it felt to achieve three awards in the space of just a few months.

"I'm overwhelmed. I'm delighted. It's great to get recognition for the hard work we put in to deliver such high end roof replacements and refurbishments.

We tried really hard to do the best possible and I've always done that." says Stuart.

Rather than benchmarking the success in terms of potential new business and revenue, Stuart explained that he instead feels like the awards justify what he sets out to achieve, and are a result of hard work, "I'm so unbelievably proud of what we've achieved in such a short space of time, it justifies what I try to do and from my perspective it's great."

Stuart was asked how it felt to work on such a unique project, "There was a lot of interest during the job from local roofers, local suppliers; everyone was very interested. You could feel it.

It's quite special to me. That is a job I hold in a very high regard for many reasons.

It wasn't easy from start to finish. But we done what we had to do during that storm going on right around us. We just got on, and I'm proud of my guys."

Not only did Yellowstones win the Roof Slating Category at the UK Roofing Awards, but Roof of The Year too. We asked if this was something Stuart had ever imagined he would achieve, "I literally dreamt about winning the UK Roofing Awards. I said to my wife, we're gonna win this

I wanted to achieve this. I always wanted to.

This is passion. I'm passionate about roofing and I want to be able to show that in what we do. It's art, isn't it?"

The International Federation of the Roofing Trade (IFD) Awards 2023was held in Bolzano from 11 - 14 October. Stuart Wheeler Roofing Ltd was one of three finalists in the Pitched Roof Category, and was crowned winner over entries from Columbus Ohio and Cape Town.

"To have won the UK and the International together is just, it's been overwhelming really."
