NFRC welcomes a landmark announcement of the government's intention to ban retention clauses in construction contracts.

Since the announcement of the consultation, NFRC has been discussing the measures with Members to deliver our response.

On Thursday 9 October, NFRC welcomed two senior officials from the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) to brief over 40 Members on the government’s major consultation proposing reforms to Late Payment and retention laws.

Members within the low and mid-rise housing sector are encouraged to respond to this research.

NFRC has welcomed the launch of the Government’s new Small Business Plan, a significant step that shows real intent to support construction SMEs. 

“Poor payment practices continue to unfairly strain the finances of roofing and cladding businesses during a period of record insolvencies within construction,” says NFRC Group CEO James Talman.

We were pleased to have confirmed that the work we started a year ago on ending retentions is being supported by the new Government and Business Ministers.
