The Building Safety Act for Devolved Nations

The Building Safety Act became law in the UK on 28 April 2022. It was introduced in response to the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, which exposed major failings in England’s building safety system.

The Act mainly applies to England. Only some parts extend to Wales, and it does not apply in Scotland or Northern Ireland, where building safety and regulations are devolved. Each nation sets its own rules and may choose to adopt similar measures, but they are not required to follow the Act.

All devolved administrations continue to review and update their building safety frameworks in light of Grenfell and other lessons. Staying informed about these changes is essential for anyone working across the UK.
