Andy Williamson, Group MD of IKO PLC, was awarded ‘Industry Personality’ at the inaugural BMJ (Builders’ Merchant Journal) Awards on 18th May. Hosted by ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ presenter Claudia Winkleman, the ceremony celebrated the success and achievements of the industry’s most outstanding people, merchants and brands.
“I am totally shocked - and utterly humbled,” comments Andy. “I just want to thank everyone who voted. I’m honoured to win against some really prestigious competition and high-profile industry names – all of whom are deserving of the award.”
Andy is a well-known figure in the industry. A Liveryman – and Court Assistant – of the Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants, he has championed key industry issues from the national skills shortage in construction to the state of the UK’s roads, speaking out at industry events and being called upon for comments in the press. He’s also the BMBI Expert for Roofing, speaking exclusively for the market, explaining trends, issues and opportunities.
The award is as much a win for IKO as Andy personally. A global leader in roofing, waterproofing and insulation products, the UK division now has three factories and is building a fourth in Alconbury Weald, which will open later this summer.
BMJ is the UK’s longest running merchant title, serving the construction distribution supply chain for nearly 100 years. The awards, organised by Datateam Business Media, reflect the massive pool of industry talent and celebrate the brands, names and businesses that keep the merchant sector thriving.
