  • Encon's Fast Track to Success

    by Encon | Oct 12, 2018

The Encon Group is celebrating another year of fantastic success after ranking 98th in the 14th annual Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 League Table.

This prestigious index lists the top 250 private mid-market growth companies in Britain who have achieved the biggest sales by managing risk and choosing the right strategic options. Encon ranks alongside businesses such as housebuilders the Stewart Milne Group, Keepmoat Homes, as well as Waterstones, Holland and Barrett.

Companies have excelled even though they have experienced challenges, such as the uncertainties of Brexit and growing shortages of skilled staff. In 2018, Encon’s sales are up 13% to £258 million, but the rising margins since 2014 have seen profits more than triple, to £13.5 million.

Speaking of the company’s accomplishments, Stuart Moore – Chief Executive said: “The previous few months have been positive for our business, despite the building industry still experiencing a slight nervousness with investors and political uncertainty. The Encon Group will continue to face challenges with suppliers on stock availability, delivery lead times and price fluctuation. In spite of these challenges, the commitment, drive and smart decision making of our teams has enabled us to maintain growth. By continually improving operational excellence and quality customer service, we deliver results”.

Ben Elmore of Martin-Brooks to compete in Sheffield 10k

A member of the back-office team at roofing specialists, Martin-Brooks, is fronting the firm’s latest fundraising campaign, as he prepares to take on the Sheffield 10k.

Buyer, Ben Elmore, will line up alongside thousands of runners from across the city to raise funds for Cavendish Cancer Care, one of Martin-Brooks’ nominated charities.

Held on Sunday, September 23, the Sheffield 10k will be Ben’s first official race, having started training several months ago. He has already surpassed his sponsorship target, raising £320 to date, but is hoping friends and colleagues will continue to donate.

Cavendish Cancer Care is one of six local charities with whom Martin-Brooks has a longstanding relationship, having donated more than £25,000 over the last eight years. It works to improve the quality of life for people with cancer, providing emotional support through counselling and complementary therapies.

Ben said: “Having lived and worked in Sheffield for most of my life, I appreciate the vital support that the dedicated team at Cavendish provides to local residents. I wanted to take on this 10k challenge not only to fulfil a personal goal, but also to raise much appreciated funds. Everyone is touched by cancer in some way and through Martin-Brooks’ relationship with the charity, we have seen first hand how our efforts, however small, can have a positive impact.”

The competition was open to all trade apprentices aged 16 and over in the UK, and this year 1,200 applications were submitted. From these, just 30 were selected for the semi-finals, and only 10 went on to make the final, including Lewis.

Twenty-four-year-old Lewis, from Grimsby, has been employed by Ashbridge Roofing for two years and was nominated by them for his talent for roofing, and outstanding approach to personal development.

The grand final will take place on 27 April at the Google Head Office in London.

Lewis Gibson, Roofing Apprentice said: “Being recognised in a national award is so exciting for me. I’m really overwhelmed by the support I’ve received so far, especially from my team at Ashbridge Roofing.

  • MARTIN-BROOKS DONATES LATEST CHARITY CASH

    by Martin-Brooks | Mar 23, 2018

    Martin-Brooks Charity

Six local organisations are benefiting from the ongoing generosity of Sheffield roofing specialists, Martin-Brooks, after it handed over another £3,000 from its charity fund.

Representatives from the nominated charities gathered at the firm’s Darnall offices to receive cheques of £500 each, taking it past its original fundraising target.

On its 25th anniversary, Martin-Brooks pledged to raise £25,000 for charity and although this has now been reached, the firm has committed to continuing its support of six organisations – Amy’s Retreat, Catcliffe MS Therapy Centre, Cavendish Cancer Care, Sheffield Talking News, St Vincent’s Furniture Scheme and The Rowan School.

John Elmore, Martin-Brooks’ managing director, said: “Over the past few years, we have become familiar with the faces behind these small, yet vital, charities and have seen what a difference our donations make. They each offer very different services, but are all loved and respected by the communities in which they operate. It was a pleasure to donate the proceeds from our latest round of fundraising and we look forward to seeing them again soon.”

The mainstay of Martin-Brooks’ fundraising efforts is an annual golf day, held at Renishaw Park Golf Club. Last year, more than 50 friends, colleagues and suppliers turned out to support the event, raising more than £1,500.

Professor Barry Hancock, chairman of Friends of The Rowan School, added: “Martin-Brooks’ continued generosity is much appreciated by FOTRS. The school is applying to the Variety Children’s Charity for a new Sunshine coach and we have committed to raising £10,000 towards this project. The firm’s donation gives us an excellent start.”
